Today is blowing my mind…

Today is one of those days.

The start of a new series & a topic everybody really resonated with worked itself out to a lot of creativity smashed into a solid hour (ish).  That always translates to an incredible experience, but also an incredible amount of work. :)

So leading up to this week we had a ton of stuff to pull off…

*Find the AHA video… create a track… record vocals… create a click… rehearse… edit & export the video… rehearse

*Create text video… create a click to the video so the band could sync up with the video… rehearse

*Learn cues, learn lines, figure out how to interact and write on a glass board

*Find the right stuff to write on the glass board and make sure people can see it

*Oh yeah, BUILD the glass board

*Figure out how to light the glass board so peeps could see it

*Chart new songs… record part tapes… learn guitar parts… rehearse

*Make graphics… message slides…

*hook up electric drums for the VINTAGE 80’s sound… haha…

So here’s what really blows my mind…

WE ARE IN KOKOMO, INDIANA. (this place is so artsy you know?)

AND…

a ton of the stuff up there was done by INTERNS.  College aged students who have jumped into this thing around church we call the PROTEGE PROGRAM.  They become slave labor for us, and we give them our company… haha… not really… but close :)

there’s just so much that goes on behind the scenes… that list up there isn’t even a 1/4 of it… and I can’t explain how hard these guys & gals worked to pull this morning off.  The HOURS, yes HOURS, of rehearsal…

I’m so proud of this team.  My mind is blown.

The guys on staff I get the privilege to work with… the people in the booth who nailed their cues, who woke up early on a Sunday morning to give their BEST to create this UNREAL experience… The guys in the band who where at rehearsal LATE on Thursday night making sure everything sounded perfect, and who came early this morning to keep making things better.

It takes so many people so much time to pull these things off! And that’s only the one room!!!

There’s just such incredible environments around Oakbrook, from the big room to Kidstuf to OSM… what a crazy thing happening in KOKOMO, INDIANA of all places… and that list of stuff is happening in all those environments too.. and there’s even more teams of people pulling THOSE things off in crazy excellent ways!

wow…

I guess I just wanted to say…

I LOVE MY TEAM. I LOVE MY CHURCH. I LOVE WHAT I DO.

WAY TO GO GUYS… TODAY OUR CHURCH KICKED SOME SERIOUS TAIL.

cheers,

YOU PICK THE PRELUDE!

We’re trying something crazy the next few weeks.. we’re letting you people pick the preludes.  Not sure yet how it’s gonna work out. :)

No, there’s no write in votes… haha… but maybe we’ll try that one day…

We’re starting a series FEBRUARY 14 called RITUAL.  We’re throwing it back to the history of the church, the “rituals” that the church, that WE have done for a super long time, and we’re gonna dive in.

Thus, every week of this series, we’ll light up a throw back prelude. We’re obviously having a little fun with your definition of “throw back”… the preludes you can vote for are all 70’s and mostly 80’s.  Really strong decades for music.

So check out the link above, see if the Oakbrook band just can’t rock your face off.

My wife actually said she’s not going to vote for one of the songs because she doesn’t think we can pull it off. ouch.  that’s straight to my heart.

She’ll see…

and so shall you. :)

vote vote vote!

This past weekend we wanted to spice up the typical announcements… so we Slow Jam the Announcements.  Major props to Jimmy Falon & the Roots!

ethos.

I realized a couple days ago that I think the ethos of our church is changing.  Ethos is something you can’t teach… at least not overnight… it just becomes who you are.  The definition of ethos is “the fundemental character or spirit of a culture.”

Ours is changing.  I can feel it.

I think these are a few things that is changing in the ethos of Oakbrook, and I’m crazy excited about it:

… we are becoming a church that worships…
… we are becoming a church that gives, radically, spontaneously and generously…
… we are becoming a church that has a global impact, and has global relationships…
… we are becoming a church that’s more about what’s going on outside the walls then inside…

It’s not comprehensive and we can obviously keep moving and growing… but there have just been moments over the last few months that our church has seriously blown me away.

God is shaping this little community of followers of Jesus in this little town of Kokomo into a movement… I just know it… HE has great things in store for this place, so lucky to be a part…

I pray we lean into what God is doing
