I realized a couple days ago that I think the ethos of our church is changing. Ethos is something you can’t teach… at least not overnight… it just becomes who you are. The definition of ethos is “the fundemental character or spirit of a culture.”
Ours is changing. I can feel it.
I think these are a few things that is changing in the ethos of Oakbrook, and I’m crazy excited about it:
… we are becoming a church that worships…
… we are becoming a church that gives, radically, spontaneously and generously…
… we are becoming a church that has a global impact, and has global relationships…
… we are becoming a church that’s more about what’s going on outside the walls then inside…
It’s not comprehensive and we can obviously keep moving and growing… but there have just been moments over the last few months that our church has seriously blown me away.
God is shaping this little community of followers of Jesus in this little town of Kokomo into a movement… I just know it… HE has great things in store for this place, so lucky to be a part…
I pray we lean into what God is doing
Hillsong… awesome.
everybody that does this song needs to grab this. One of the coolest video support pieces i’ve seen in a while. Not gonna lie, it’s not the most worshipful song ever… but man is it fun… :)
It’s a new song. :)
Listen to it.
Let God speak through it.
It’s starts with HIM.
It ends with HIM.
It’s all about HIS STORY.
It’s all about rescue.
How ‘bout we sing it this weekend?
OK, you talked me into it… why not… :)
cheers,
j
PS. it’s called You Alone Can Rescue off Matt Redman’s newest album We Shall Not Be Shaken, which, by the way, is an AWESOME ALBUM. Buy it in iTunes.

A ton of people asked me what that “one song that’s about our god” song was we sang this morning… so here it is. :)
Probably my favorite off the new Passion Awakening CD (<-click the link to buy it on itunes, the whole album is AWESOME)
Some pics from Easter this year… it was a serious honor to get to pull this off with the greatest team of incredible volunteers, staff, and interns… YOU guys make it happen. :) HE is ALIVE.

Mighty To Save from Easter 2010: ALIVE. Is there a better song for Easter Sunday? :)
You can watch the rest of the videos here: http://www.oakbrookchurch.com/media_player/
It takes a crew. Ever wonder what it takes to pull off something like a big production like Easter? It takes all these people: Lights / Video / Producer / Pro Presenter / Prompter / Sound dude #1 / Sound dude #2 / Stage Manager (not pictured since he’s on stage) / Stage Hand (you get the idea)
Crazy right?
Those of us on stage get the spotlight and all the “thank-you’s” and “way to go’s” but it wouldn’t happen without this tech booth full of awesome people.
These guys make it go… this crew makes it happen!!!
You Are Holy by Elevation Worship.
I’m really digging these tunes lately… and this is probably my favorite song of their album God With Us. Can’t wait to lead it…

Hey Oakbrook Church peeps. I am leading this new song this weekend. I am so excited to sing this song with you guys. It’s called “No Reason to Hide” by Hillsong.
So check out this song, download it, burn it…this gives ya’ll a head start to sing as one big family on Sunday AM.
3 reasons I love this song
1. The first line in the Chorus is the WHOLE DEAL..the whole good news. “You’re alive and we are free…you are everything we need.” Simple but powerful words that include the heart of why the Church exists and why Jesus matters today.
2. The words in the verses are awesome for me. They challenge me to live out my faith throughout the week and throughout whatever situation I find myself in. “There is a city that waits for us, it’s time we took all the lampshades off.”
3. This song just stinkin rocks. Loud guitars, big drums…and come on, who doesn’t love a big “WHOAH, OHH” in a song. Instant anthem. Add water.
I’m looking forward to it guys and gals. Have a great rest of the week! See ya’ll at Church on Sunday, but remember to be the Church this week!
